A famine strikes Israel as a covenant curse for King Saul's unjust actions, and David must respond by restoring justice. He gives justice to Israel's covenant partners, the Gibeonites, but also for the remaining family of King Saul. David's men also establish justice by killing giants who opposed Israel. All of this points forward to King Jesus, who truly keeps covenant and establishes justice.
