Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
1 Corinthians 16:13
We aim for our worship services to be joyful, reverent, and relatable. The first priority is that we have gathered to glorify God. Along with that, we believe that our gathering should be helpful, encouraging, and challenging to each of us as we seek to follow Jesus.
When we gather, we sing! We'll sing songs that are both old and new, but we focus on songs that clearly communicate God's truth. Sometimes that will be older hymns. Sometimes that will be newer hymns and songs. Often, we'll sing the psalms together. Often the music will be accompanied with instruments, or we'll sing along with recorded songs, but sometimes we'll also just sing with our voices.
When we gather, we read the Bible! We'll read together during the worship service, both from the Old and New Testaments. The sermon will be explaining, teaching, and applying a text of Scripture, usually teaching straight through books of the Bible. We don't claim to have any new ideas or techniques to teach. Instead, we believe that God has spoken in his Word and that's what we need to hear.
When we gather, we are family! The people who come together on Sunday for the worship service are also connected to each other throughout the week. And the whole family is included - we welcome kids in the worship service with us. We know that means there will be some noises and distractions, and that's OK. We want children to grow up understanding the faith and knowing that they belong as part of the church family. We provide a nursery for those who need it, and our classes are divided up by age groups. But just like Jesus welcomed the children to come to him, we want to welcome kids to worship with us.
When we gather, our eyes are on Jesus! He is the focus of what we do. He created us in his image, and we seek to become more like him. When we sing, we sing to honor him. When we read Scripture, we're looking for how it points to him. So you can expect to hear about Jesus when you visit Ikon Church.
We look forward to having you join us!
